Correct Engine ID Tag Code??
« on: September 23, 2014, 03:46:45 PM »
Have a customer who has a 66 Convertible 289 2V with Los Angeles DSO and so has the Thermactor Emissions. San Jose Assembly roughly March of 66.  Trying to figure out if there is a typical Engine Code seen on the Engine ID Tag for this particular set-up?? Book shows quite a few different codes for 289 2V without any callouts for specific options/equipment.

A Cleveland block would have a casting number of C5AE-6015-E, Windsor C6AE-6015-C.

That must be from Bob Mannell's Book? No specific references to Smog Motors?

...No specific references to Smog Motors?

I went through this earlier this year. Mine was a year newer car built 11/66 ( a '67 289 4V) but ended up using another similar build date 4V as a reference. In 67's (don't quote me as saying it is the same) there is an "E" that seems to denote the thermactor engines. I'm not sure that Mannel's book covers it (correctly). Using Mustangtek.com, other input (mostly from a combination of Mannel's book and other known correct examples) I was able to get (what I believe is) a correct tag made up at Marti Autoworks. EVERYTHING matters, so do your research and be sure before you go to print or be prepared to do it again when you later find out what it should read.
