1967 Mustang GTA 390 Smog System
« on: August 30, 2014, 06:49:25 PM »
I cant find any information on a Smog System for a GTA 390. My car was assembled in December at the San Jose Plant and sold in Los Angeles. Is it the same as the one put on the 289?

Most components different than the small block.  There has been a ton of discussion and pictures.  I suggest getting some Ford documents (shop manual, engine assembly manual) which get you 95% there.  Then use previous posts to pick up a few more detailed pointers, then ask very specific questions after that.

First no they are not the same system as used on the 289's in 67. Being a 67 you are challenged by a number of running changes in the 390 systems one that related to where the filter for the pump mounted.

Most of the parts are not reproduced and finding all the little things can add to the frustrations of adding one of these systems back to your car so I would suggest that you search out the most complete system you can find. This can be a challenge since a fair amount of 67 Shelby owners are looking also - though what they need is not exactly the same but a 390 system is a good start ;)

If you have AC (already see you have an automatic) can also effect the parts you will need also. Another word of warning - you don't want a system off of a big car since a number of parts differ from the Fairlane, Mustang, Cougar style.

The Osborn 67 Engine Assembly manual has a number of pages that show the details pretty well (pages dated for December) which would likely be useful for you.

That should get you started - have plenty of books and such (some pictures)  just don't know your specific need(s ) or questions
