69 Brake caliper finish
« on: June 20, 2014, 06:55:28 AM »
What is the correct process for finishing the front brake calipers?
They appear to have a anodized coating of some sort on mine

As always, thanks for the help.

Front calipers are basically just cast iron bare steel. If your asking about the stamped steel shields (not the dust shields) I've found many that were galvanized on 69- 70's

from what I seen the silver coated calipers are only on certain cars depending on which wheel option to hide the rusting of bare steel on caliper when seen thru the mag spokes or slotted openings & I have 2 that came that way from the Dearborn plant & some that are bare steel. On 69 shelbys ford painted front face black but how was this coded on build sheet or buck tag or ?

So since the poster appears to be building a 69 Cougar Eliminator would they IYHO be bare or plated with some silver stuff?   ;)

I am working on exactly this part of the suspension this weekend and can post photos of what I believe is correct so we can look and comment.  I am working on brakes for a 69 Mach 1 so could be a good comparison.

While not doing a Cougar, I was advised that the caliper is a natural finish and the dust shield is a cold galvanized finished.  I've attached some photos to show how mine looks.
