I don't fully understand it, but page 41 of the Chassis Assembly manual says:
"Adjust rod 9A702 to obtain this idle pedal height setting with carb choke fully opened. This measurement is to be taken from the flat section of the dash panel outboard of pedal 10.5" line. The panel changes inboard of this height."
It's the 10.5" verbiage I don't understand.
Regardless, I strongly suspect my gas pedal is too close to the carpet; it sits noticeably closer to the carpet than the brake pedal. ---> Is that common, or are the brake and accelerator pedals supposed to be at about the same height off of the carpet??? Pictures would help, if anyone could provide them. Or, a measurement from the carpet to the gas pedal would be great as well.
The assembly manual specifies 4 to 4.5" height above the carpet, which seems WAY to high IMHO. My pedal is ~2" above the carpet right now and I question whether it's fully opening the carb (it's close, very close, but I cannot be certain it is fully opening).
Help?
One more thing...... if I need to bend the accelerator linkage, how do I do this without removing it from the car? I truly don't believe I could remove it with the engine installed (390... no space to get at the bolts). I have the 9A702 linkage at the carb adjusted to the max.... any further and the accelerator rod hits the engine side of the firewall when the carb is at idle.
