Hood turn signal housing: Sealant?
« on: August 09, 2014, 06:26:25 PM »
I couldn't help myself and picked up another two pairs of "spare" hood turn signal housings at a recent swap meet. I noticed that both pairs had black sticky sealant on the bottom perimeter which would face the hood when installed.
I don't see any mention of the use of a sealer, in this area, in the body assembly manual for 1967.

Was any form of sealant used between the hood and the turn signal housings?

Don't recall ever seeing any there or can think of why they would apply it at that location

It is possible the sealant may have been added for insulation to remedy some rattling noises. The grilles in the hood inserts were updated for the noise, so maybe a few Ford dealerships or body shops got the idea to add something there.
