Topic: 1966 MUSTANG CARBURETOR RECOMMENDATION

I need the correct carburetor for my mustang.  It is a 66 C code convertible with a T-10 4 speed and was born in San Jose in 6-4-66 and delivered to the Seattle district.

Here are the recommendations on the Mustangtec website.  Are there any other carburetors not listed here that are concourse correct?
The car does not have the smog equipment, the engine has not been touched except for the carburetor.

The engine tag information is as follows.

289 C 66 10
6 D 231 8

     I have a C6DF-B carb.  You have it listed for a manual trans.  I believe the B code was for an automatic.   Brian

The shop manual for 1966 shows the following.

C6DF-A   289-2V standard transmission

C6DF-E   289-2V standard transmission with thermactor emissions

C6DF-B    289-2V automatic transmission

If you have the themactor emissions, then C6DF-E is what you need, if no thermactor emissions, then C6DF-A would be the choice.

Wow, thanks guys!  It seems mustang tech is wrong on this one. I will search for the A.  Are there any other details that I should look for when purchasing a used Carb?

My understanding is that the biggest difference is AT's have a dashpot on the throttle shaft, therefore a different suffix.

if you obtain a factory shop manual it will have the different specs listed.

The basic housings are the same for 66 Mustangs except for the 289HP, it's some internal components and adjustments that make the differences; here are some:
- Jets; smog, non-smog; operating altitude; transmission type.
- Dashpot: AT only.
- Booster Venturi: both primary and secondary.
- Economizer: operating altitude.
- Choke: TN for AT, TO for MT.
- Adjustments: idle speed.
In general, you can take any 1.08 inch venturi size 66 Mustang carburetor and adapt it to any 66 Mustang specification by changing components and making the proper adjustments.

     The type of carb is id'ed by the last letter, in this case, C.  The C is a manual trans carb.  The 1.08 0r 1.12 is cast into the fuel float bowl.  There are also service replacement carbs.  Post whatever numbers you can find and these guys will help you figure it out.  Brian
