Touch up Paint on "Knockoffs"
« on: July 18, 2014, 03:13:53 PM »
I have a July 64.5 with the wheel covers topped with the faux 3 point knockoff hub with red/white/blue accent colored ring.
Time has: a) had little to no effect on the white, b) made the blue rather bright, c) faded the red to near obscurity.

It looks as if I can release the knockoff with nuts from the backside.
If I can get to the colored ring, I would love suggestions on the type and shade of paint to use to bring these back.

Found (for me) that the semitransparent candy reds and blues in the small rattle cans at the hobby stores provided me with the best (out of the can) results. Little cans are designed for small model cars and the like

Got to make sure you get all of the original color off the plastic before reapplying the new color - also for this sort of thing- applied a coat of silver over the blue or red after it is in place and I'm happy with the tint and tone. Similar to what use to be done on candy colors - base of silver or gold with the color over it

Just what worked for me and you can always strip it off and redo if not happy ;)
