Topic: Six Cylinder muffler and tail pipe assy

From the time I have been restoring my 66  6 cylinder Dearborn car, Jan 66 build, I have been looking for an original muffler and tail pipe assy. I have found several 67, but they are not the same as 65-66, with both outlets on the same side of the muffler. The factory originals had the tailpipe welded at the muffler, as well as had a one piece intermediate pipe.

Does anyone have any detailed pictures of the muffler assy, and where the welds are, and how they looked on the muffler. I had contacted Precision Exhaust online, and was told he could replicate them if he had good detailed pictures. I also asked him about the one piece intermediate pipe.

Here is a picture from the Ford MPC that shows the original set up and the
service replacement, maybe the part numbers will be of some help to you.
Bob Perkins has low mile cars, not sure if he has one like yours but might be
worth a shot to get in touch with him to see if he can help you out.

Why does this call for a different muffler with and without the Thermactor system for a replacement and it also notes that the original inlet pipe was different with and without a Thermactor system.  What was different about those two parts?  Aftermarket catalogs show no difference in these parts.

Check with Bob Perkins, he may still have an original muffler assembly and intermediate pipe for your car. He listed a couple a few years back on EBay. The 6 cylinder muffler assembly is different from the V8 in that the muffler is around 4 inches shorter. The service part muffler kit uses the short style muffler like the 6 cylinder setup with a separate tail pipe. Would be easy to weld the pipe on and would look OK till you find the correct one.
