1969 Standard Interior 4 Speed Shift Knob
« on: April 09, 2013, 10:18:41 PM »
Since my Mustang originally came with a 4 speed and standard interior, would my shifter knob be woodgrain with a white face and blue stripes or a black round one?

If it is the black round knob, would it be  the same knob that was used in '67 and '68?

Thanks.

Black one normally- believe its the same as 67-69. Reproductions are different from originals (surprise)  but will fill a need

Thanks Jeff. How do the new knobs differ from the originals?

Can't find the thread but from memory (don't have both at home to compare) I recall the thread insert

This is the knob on my early 69 Mach 1.  Can only assume that is OE.  I have heard some of the things to look out for are; the chrome outer ring, the shift pattern lay out in relation to the blue stripes and the flat top 3.  Brian

Brian, You are correct, I have the same ball on my shifter and it is the original. Never saw a 69 with a black ball unless it was a three speed.

Isn't there a different in the thread insert between originals and reproductions. Will have to see if I have one of each to compare

The ball on a 69 Mach 1 with three speed is woodgrain  with white face, blue strips and shift pattern.

I thought we were talking Sportsroofs, not Mach I's. The woodgrain would be correct on a 3 speed Mach.

Insert on repops is brass, OEM are steel. The flat top 3 isnt necessarily indication of repop. Flat top was used 68-early 69 then round top 3 continued into service. Repops copied the service with round top 3

On this particular knob next to the steel insert, in the plastic edge, is a cast and raised # 2.  Brian
