Accelerator Rod
« on: June 13, 2014, 03:29:01 PM »
What finish should the accelerator rod be on a SJ 10-64 289 car be?  Should it be zinc or zinc dichromate?  Reason I ask is I am thinking of taking my parking light retainers to be replated and they do a batch for $75 and I'd like to include as much stuff in there to be done.  My door strickers, license plate light, and hood pin are ok.  Are there any other pieces that need to be done in this finish?

Thanks,
Chris

I've seen Zinc Dichromate on some original 289 equipped 1965/66 Mustangs.

That is what I thought but the rules say a natural finish.  Didn't know if that included the zinc dichromate finish or just a regular finish on them...

'Natural' is a carryover of old rules, basically allowing natural appearance paints instead of correct platings/finishes.  In this case, Rich is correct, zinc w/dichromate(gold).
