Under dash original carpet + column + pedal pics?
« on: June 08, 2014, 11:55:37 AM »
Would someone be willing to post a few pics of any original 67/8 cars showing how the carpet looks in relation to the steering column, accelerator pedal and parking brake pulley? I've found a couple pictures from a "Virginia Classic Mustang inc" blog, yet nothing is visible left of the steering column.

I gather there is a small "V" notch cut just below the accelerator rod as it passes through the firewall, a notch cut so the carpet lays flat around the steering column (not sure if that cut is made square or rounded). However, I cannot tell how the carpet is supposed to lay with respect to the emergency brake cable pulley. Pictures in this area would help a lot.

Yipee! Thanks a ton! I've unsuccessfully spent hours searching for decent images of unrestored cars in this area. Thank you!

I'm surprised to see a notch cut out for the parking brake cable pulley. Very interesting. Have you seen such a notch cut out in other cars?

Let's say something VERY IMPORTANT first.  :o These photos are of the back side of original carpeting that was finish fitted at the factory. The measurements shown are from the OEM carpeting and are NOT A BASIS TO CUT IN YOUR CARPETING FROM. They only show the correct size, shape and distance from one another.
The first picture is the dimmer switch hole.
The 2nd is of the Park Brake cut & edge of the column cut.
3rd is of all 3 notches
4th is distance from column to gas pedal notch.
5th is of distance from beginning of park cutout to the column.

Hope these help, remember, everything pictured from the bottom, so it is all backwards. ALSO, realize anything measured from the ends are from an already finish fitted carpeting.

The biggey is the firewall pad. Wiring is different too, but that usually is subtle, not noticed at a glance.
The 68 stands out like a sore thumb (in comparison) Especially with the underdash air.

I cannot more strongly convey how helpful these pics - and especially the measurements - have been to me. Thanks!       It has occurred to me that I should follow-up with a question about the carpet on the passenger side.   Question: how much of the passenger side firewall pad should be visible between the carpet and the heater box? The answer impacts how much carpet one should trim off in this area. :-)
