1966 Rally Pac
« on: June 11, 2014, 03:22:35 PM »
There is a Rally PAC for sale that is purported to be original, but restored. It looks very correct and in excellent shape. However I have a question on the four Phillips head screws that are on the back side of the case. They have a textured finish just like the case finish. Is this correct?

I can't comment exactly on a '66 unit.  However, I know that one my '65 high profile style Rally Pac the screws were only painted black to match the color of the case (no texture).

The ones I've seen (High Profile units for '66) all had kind of a black anodized color to the phillips screws, but no black wrinkle or color paint on them, depending on what it had on it originally. Sounds like it possibly had the gauges in it when Refurbished? If that is the case, you may find evidence where masking off the gauge facings before paint/finish was applied, didn't quite take care of any remaining paint overspray. Maybe even left a paint line in there, depending on how good they were or if the lock rings were off when done, etc. Some folks out there are so good with masking beofre painting, you'd almost never know it were redone...
