68 Metuchen kick panels
« on: June 03, 2014, 12:13:51 AM »
Has any one seen a rivet where the screw would be in a 68 Metuchen kick panel? Found this on our 68 GT 350 and it seems that I have seen it before. Also there is no  screw hole in the metal where the rivet is so I would assume that this is how it was assembled.

Jeff I posted this in the 67-68 area because I did not think the kick panels were unique to Shelby cars. I might add that there is a slight dent in the metal where the rivet was pushed in so the rivet was added after the kick panel was in the car. I thought it may have been a mistake but is just the same on both sides.

I haven't seen that before.  If I bought that car new with a pop rivet like that, it would be replaced before I took delivery!

The rivet doesn't look that good compared to the screws ether IMO. You can ether be "that guy" and keep it given the evidence plus have to explain it every single time or redo it the typical way. It is not like the rivet is a cool distinction.Interesting? Yes because I have never seen it, but not cool interesting IMO. Your choice to decide which is best.

You guys have confirmed what I suspected. No I do not think it is that cool and most likely will correct it when I restore the car. There was black paint on the rivets so they were not so noticeable but the paint came off when I cleaned the kick panels. It is too bad I will not be able to use the kick panels as they were in pretty good shape.
Thank you everyone for your in put.
