I'm getting down to the small details now.

I went to install my rear license plate and found that the back of the plate was going to be in contact with the surface of the paint (horizontally across the middle of the plate). Does anybody have a good solution to keep the plate off of the paint? Gasket, film, etc.?

Thanks.

I purchased some 1/4" foam Weatherstripping from a hardware store that has adhesive on one side. It easy to hide and soft, so it doesn't make it difficult to attach the plate to the car. I've also had luck using Stainless Steel Washers on the bolts to create a slight gap between the plate and the body...along with the foam.

Sometimes you can bend the plate very slightly to keep the edge away from the part. Other than that on a concours cars I would leave it as is  or Place a bumper (strip of weatherstrip, foam tape ....) behind it and remove the plates for showing
