'67 non GT Rear Valance
« on: May 21, 2012, 01:40:53 PM »
I understand the GT Rear Valance had cut outs for the quad tips, so the standard dual exhaust version had not. Is this correct? Was it possible to get only the GT option Rear Valance w/cut outs as a dealer option? In other words: If a standard non GT-Optioned dual exhaust equipped car has a rear valance with cut outs it is not a factory or dealer option, right?

Thanks for your help

In 67 the dual cutout rear valence with quad chrome tips was, per my understanding, only included from the factory on GT/GTA models with the 289/271HP and the 390.

GT/GTA models with the 289/200HP and 289/225HP received single exhaust with a turn down before the rear valence.  In other words, not all GT/GTAs have the cut outs and quad tips.  Hard for some people to believe.

The non-GT based 390 received dual exhaust with turn downs before the standard rear valence - no cut outs, no chrome quad tips.

The non-GT 289/271HP is a trick question because the GT(GTA) option was required to get this engine, thus the first sentence applies.

As for what a dealer would do that should be left up to the imagination, unless you are fortunate enough to have paperwork.

Believe John posted correct though I'm not sure if EVERY K code was a GT (other than the Shelby's)  Guess that would have to be confirmed by Kevin Marti

Jeff, I did hesitate a bit on the 289 Hipo item - my reference point is Ford ordering form information (stating that the GT package was required for the Hipo) supplimented on what I've read.  Obviously there are always exceptions to the rule.

Pretty sure that all '67 K code mustangs (not Shelby) were either GT or GTA.  Only 400 or so made.

Looking at the copies of builsheets I have I found one for a K code coupe (became one of the Trans Am cars) that appears to not be a GT. No handling, no GT susp, basic shocks & springs
