What is wrong with the 67 289 you showed pictures of? You said it was zero miles, possibly from a school, did you need an older one or something, but what date code & casting numbers if so?

Also consider that it is completely acceptable to install sleeves to bring a block back to std. bore.  This is done commonly and even for race engines.

I have two 65 dated standard bore blocks, one is bare without main caps the other is a complete rebuildable long block if your interested,

If it were a '65 I'd be set but personally I want to do what makes me happy and that is a '65 block in a '65.

Of course most 65's had engines dated in 64 in them

And at least half of the 65 dated ones went in 66's

Might want to check your local Craig's list - always a half dozen or more for sale locally here. You just have to do the "casting date dance" with the owners
