65 Distributor
« on: February 17, 2014, 11:13:58 PM »
Correct distributor information for a 65, four speed, 289 car ?  San Jose, Gt delivered and received by the new owner in San Diego May 29, 1965.  Research says AUTOLITE and the engineering number, stamped on the distributor, should be C5AF-12127-B.  The correct engineering number and an approximate date ?  Thanks,  Brian

All 1965 289 engines with a 4 barrel carburetors, AT and MT transmissions, and all 1966 289 engines with a 4 barrel carburetors, AT and MT transmissions, non-smog, use distributors marked C5GF-12127-A. A C5AF-12127-B is listed for a full size Ford 352 engine with an AT transmission. You want the C5GF- version. Date code should be before the engine assembly date (don't use casting date here).

Thank you Jim.  C5GF-12127-A   I'am guessing 5EA would be about right and FoMoCo.  Brian

April 65 (5Dx) would be acceptable. I got mine off e-bay, about $150, and a complete rebuild, with a Pertronics I, was pushing $250. The rebuild included a chart of the advance curve and the advance was specially set up for the Pertronics. The distributor I got from e-bay, was "modified" by the use of a dual point mounting plate which I sold on e-bay for $75. The rebuild was done by Distributor Dynamics in Brownsville, CA, but the owner said he was winding down his efforts. It is a 5EA date coded but I need it for my own 65 GT Fastback. If you want the phone number to see if they are still in operation, give me a PM.

Yes Jazzbo is still in business and good to know they are still around.  Tim O'Conner did some work for my 69 car and I was very happy with that.  So seem to have a couple of directions to go in if needed.  Brian
