Autolite 4300 Air cleaner mounting stud
« on: January 09, 2014, 01:47:57 AM »
Hi,

what does the air cleaner stud on the Autolite 4300 look like? Is it a threaded bolt with the hex in the middle or is it just a two sided threaded straight bolt? There should be the same thread sizes on both sides.
In the i-net i find the Scott Drake bolt for Hipo Air cleaners in zinc finish or the Air cleaner mounting at npd-parts in black finish as straight bolt.
Which one looks correct?

Thank you

Christopher

It appears that the stud has a phosphate and oil finish that was started in 1968. The studs have the same dimensions for V8 cars (289, 302, 390) for 1965 thru 1970, the earlier cars being clear zinc (ref 370971-S8 and 382717-S2).
Note: Ford's procurement documents specified sizes, materials, finish and a single source vendor so if a change in any of those was made and new part number was created. It was easier than going thru the change procedure.

The air cleaner stud for the 4300 series carbs are different from the 4100 series.  The thread size is different on top vs. the bottom. I could not find any correct reproductions from AMK or any other source.  I searched the swap meets. I found a couple still on the carbs and offered the seller $$ to separate it from the carb.

Danny is correct, the stud is very different from the 4100 series.  I have never seen one anywhere but in a 4300 so can be no help in where else to look.

This stud is from a 73 Motorcraft 4300.  FWIW  3 & 3/4" long, 3/8 " nut size and top 1" for air cleaner.  Brian

Are the threads at both ends 1/4-20?

I have 4 versions of Autolite/Motorcraft carburetor studs. You would think that they would be consistent. Gave up trying to sort them out for my catalog.

At least two of these studs came from 4300 carburetors, the other 2 came from 2100's. Hard to guarantee originality when some of these carburetors have "rebuilt" stickers on them.
