Correct A/C Brackets for Late 68
« on: January 22, 2014, 12:34:28 PM »
I am in the parts gathering phase on my Dearborn May 5 1968 Coupe.  It had factory air, but the previous owner decided to remove the compressor, brackets, and idler.

What brackets and idler do I need to be correct for this car?  Is there any interchange across years?

Yes, later 68 to later 69 firewall forward would mostly be the same .You had a different style before and a differant style after. The trick is knowing the nuance of differences because the parts can look similar. If that doesn't matter then 67-70 will interchange. A complete concours tutorial including hoses ,brackets pulleys compressors clutches etc. etc.  is  more writting and pictures then I am prepared to commet at this time. Maybe others?  It sounds like a good next article project for Marcus  ;) .

289/302 engine?  ;)

289/302 answer
The early versions used a cast iron lateral bracket, the mid year replacement bracket was stamped steel. The lateral bracket mounts to the side of the compressor. Generally few parts interchange between the two designs.
We have pictures of the individual components on our website.

Forgot about that - 289!

So I'm probably looking for a stamped steel lateral bracket.

krelboyne - Website is awesome!  Very clearly organized.  I see the bracket I need on there I think.  Looks like the late-'67 mounting bracket can go with the 1968 stamped steel lateral bracket?

Hope these help. Might consider getting an assembly manual or two - though not perfect they will get you going in the right direction ;)

Those pictures help a lot!  There is also a bracket from the top of the intake to the compressor.  I thinking I'm going to see if I can get in touch with some previous owners to see if, by chance, they may have kept some of the original parts.
