67 Deluxe seats
« on: November 16, 2021, 07:02:08 AM »
My 67 fastback (interior decor, black vinyl luxury bucket seats, no comfortweave) has front seats with a number of rips in but otherwise complete. Does anyone know where new covers for such seats are available which retain the original stock appearance?

(I'm in the process of renovating the car but as a driver rather than concours.)

Thanks!

You can buy a TMI set from NPD with free shipping. I have had good luck with them.

Many thanks - I have looked at the TMI range but they don't seem to do a set that doesn't have the comfortweave inserts. My seats have a tucked vinyl insert (ie similar to standard seats) - and if I can I'd like to keep them original looking. Scott Drake do a product too but that too has the comfortweave insert - I can only assume that was the more popular option when the cars were originally made.

Do you know of anyone who does covers w/o the comfortweave?

Thanks!

For 67 there is no difference in the material between standard and interior decor (deluxe)

I think you might be equating deluxe with comfortweave which is incorrect.  If you look at reply #7 on the discussion linked below, you will see that you could have ordered "knitted vinyl" on both standard and interior decor optioned cars.

Many thanks John. My body / interior codes are 63B & 6A (interior decor & 'black vinyl luxury bucket seats' with the solid vinyl material, ie not comfortweave/knitted vinyl).

Reply #1 of that thread you kindly pointed me at is interesting - I had read somewhere else that 'standard' seat covers did not fit on 'deluxe' seats. So I had assumed that the seat itself was different.

I had however noticed that the seat that I have looks very similar to a 'standard' bucket seat - but with the hard back & side trim added. So if it is the case that the interior decor option simply adds the trim, and the seat itself is identical, I can use the 'standard' seat covers on my seat. (Which would be why the NPD link you kindly provided points at standard bucket seat covers :)

I hadn't knowingly equated comfortweave with deluxe & can see that comfortweave was available on non-interior decor cars. However some of the suppliers do seem to equate those terms - the scott drake catalog shows a 'deluxe seat upholstery' set for 67 which only comes with comfortweave.

In the end I'm guessing that Ford didn't use the term 'deluxe' and that the separate options were interior decor (Y/N) and comfortweave (Y/N) all of which used the same seat frame. Is that correct or have I confused myself even more?

maybe it's helpful to think about how a car could be ordered - omitting the bench seat variation for simplicity:

1. standard or interior decor?
2. solid or knitted vinyl?
3. what color, noting that knitted only available in black or white?

The interior decor vinyl and seat frame is identical to standard.  For interior decor, the standard vinyl seat back was omitted.  The plastic "shells" were added, and covered a good part of the vinyl.

Lastly, Ford did not use "deluxe" which is why I purposefully avoid it.  For both interior decor and exterior decor options.

Perfect - many thanks John! I'll stop using 'deluxe' as well!

Since I'm in the UK I'm now trying to juggle shipping costs, stock availability and product quality differences between stockists (basically NPD/TMI vs UK stockist & Scott Drake). Another story...!

Thanks again.

Don't forget to at least consider replacing the foam.  You might want to peel back the passenger seat to see how much ends up as dust, before you place any order.

And of course another minor difference between standard and interior decor is the addition of the chrome buttons in the seat backs.
