70 speedometer clip for trans tunnel install
« on: November 08, 2024, 03:52:04 PM »
Can Anyone tell me how to install this new clip. I've included a pic of my original clip from my 1970 Cougar vert. I've read of people breaking the clip part trying to push/spread the inner part.

It installs the same way the brake line clips do in the tunnel. It goes in a hole . Then the two tabs are squeezed together causing the tangs on the bottom side to move outward in the hole thus holding the clip in.

Haven't had to install any of the 70 version (one ear or wing rather than two used in the earlier years). Challenge is typically for me to hold the clip with cable to the body while trying to spread the clip in the hole to secure everything. With the others I'll use, or have someone else, hold the clip tight to the car. Often using a tool like a flat screw driver with the tip wrapped with electrical tape to protect the finishes, while I move the ears/wings. Often I would double check these by again holding the tight to the body while I insert a flat thin screw driver between the wings and to try and provide a little more spread between them deep inside by prying or twisting slightly and not getting carried away.

Just what has worked for me

Hi Bob. It's not that type of clip. I've installed the brake line clips with no problem. Look closely at the second picture. It kinda looks like a loopy "W". My understanding is you push through the little square opening and push on the middle of the "w" spreading the clip. I remember it was a pita to get it off. I guess if I break the "w" part, I'll use one of the brake line clips or maybe go back to the screw type with clip. Thank for the input guys
