Door Sill Plate Cleaning
« on: September 19, 2013, 09:29:51 PM »
What type of finish should the door sill plates from 64.5 convertible produced in  June 1964 look like and what should I use to clean them without destroying their original finish. Mine are original and not very dented just very dirty.

Only guesses -(Haven't done a rough set yet)

- OxyClean or similar and medium brush
- Aluminum cleaner
- Brasso followed with a light wheel cleaner (acid base) keeping ti wet at all times to reduce the shine as I do with my retinned gas filler necks

Just some thoughts - and possibilities

Thanks Jeff.

I just want to make sure that I don't destroy the original finish.

Thanks Jeff.

IF your looking at protecting the original finish you can't do much more than clean them with soap and water and coat them with some wax - to reduce the chance of corrosion/electrolysis that sometimes takes place with two different metals are in contact with one another for a period of time
