Topic: 1986 grey gas cap

I know 1986 had a grey plastic gas cap with a retaining strap. Anyone know what years were the same? 1985, 1987 ?
I need one if anyone has a spare. NOS or nice used.

Have you checked at a Ford dealer? junkyard? I would think that cap was used on many different Ford products in the 80s

Ford has a replacement but it doesn't match the original. The retaining strap breaks pretty easy on the originals. I believe it was only a couple year cap that was grey.

Not sure if it's still available from the dealer or not. I know the grey gas caps first appeared in 83 on fuel injected vehicles such as the Turbo Coupe and Turbo GT. To be honest it's been so long since I've put gas in my 88 I don't remember what color the gas cap is. I think it might be black, though. I'd try a dealer first. You might get lucky on E-Bay, but I doubt it. Salvage yards would be your best bet. All mid 80's Fords had the grey gas cap, so you should be able to find one at a salvage yard.

Back in the early 90s my original retaining strap broke and the FORD replacement didn't match. It is black with different type of retainer. I did just get one on eBay. $13.
