where to buy correct parts for a 64,5
« on: November 24, 2013, 10:22:31 AM »
i'm refurbishing a 64,5 conv. Its been restored some 15 years ago and some of the parts would need changing. i will try to restore as much as the original 64,5 ford parts as possible, but where do i look for CORRECT repro parts? . (yes i could trawl the net for ages for NOS parts - but will like the car finished by spring). What company would you recomend.

And both have senior management posting on this forum, and they listen.

I buy almost exclusively from Virginia Classic Mustang. Excellent to deal with, orders are always packaged very well,  and they carry the best "quality" repro parts. Believe me, there are differences in repro parts! ;)

Same for me; NPD mostly, just starting to look into Virginia Mustang and occasionally K.A.R. Might do more with K.A.R. but they're just too high on many things.

Plan your purchases and take advantage of all discounts, taxes, shipping charges and specials. I use a spreadsheet to create a buy list and it has worked well for over 20 years for me (I was a production planner in an earlier life). You will find that about 80 to 90 percent of the available parts are offered by all catalog suppliers. It's that last 10-20 percent that are single sourced. Customer service is another factor, there are sellers that have very poor customer service. If you do some reading about parts you will find the good sources stated as such, the bad suppliers are usually not discussed. Avoid a supplier that you cannot find a good (or any) review. The bottom line is, if the price seems too good to be true, it may very well be.
There are other sources of parts to consider.
AMK is a major supplier of hardware (they don't make any) and they supply almost all the sellers, but they also sell direct.
Coker tires sell reproduction tires thru catalog sellers and direct too.
