Anti-freeze tag and wire tags
« on: January 12, 2014, 03:54:36 PM »
Hi,

do you use an anti-freeze tag on the radiator neck and some wire harness tags for a concourse correct engine bay? There are 2 different anti-freeze tags a red Fomoco (1964-70) and a blue Ford Tag (1967-72). What is the correct one for a 1969 351W built in July 69.
Does anybody has some pictures where an how the wire tags where around the harness in the engine bay, for example the alternator wire or the engine wire loom (gauge feed)?

Thank you

You didn't say what plant your 69 was manufactured. But, For our 69 mach1, Metuchen built Feb.'69,  we have used the blue tag for years in concours class with No points deduction. Never had a Judge to question the blue tag.

Check out the ECS website on wiring harness tags/decals.  http://www.ecsautomotive.com/products.php?co=f&pagenum=1

I don't think it was typical for the tags to be afixed at the plants. I think it was more a service thing at the dealerships. In years past  bundles of tags have been found in dealerships. Only thing i can think of to have them at the dealership would be maybe installed at pre inspection or at service of car. If that was the case there would not have been a need to have them at the dealership if installed at the plant. There are a multitude of vintage  engine shots out there and not too many I have seen had the tags. The few ones I have seen that did would be hard to say if they were added at predelivery or at the plant . just the fact that you don't see them as a standard in every vintage engine shot indicates something ;) .    I don't think I have heard of any coming home from the plants maybe some did. It was ether because they were not typically installed at the plant so not there or of no value to a worker to smuggle them in the lunch pail like other things that were. They are neat items that most likely were put on at pre delivery IMO . But I don't think that they were put on every car at the plant (if at all at the plant).

I have at least 6 versions of these tags from 63- 67- fomoco  rotunda & ford 67-70- 72 dates.  I have only found these tags in old ford dealerships years ago & they were added to new cars as the amount of anti-freeze varied according to how far north the ford dealer was & I found some of these tags in bottom of old empty anti-freeze can case cardboard boxes  & most of the tags I found were in NORTHERN ford dealers! Imagine that!!
