1967 Gt 390 air cleaner filter size & or part number
« on: May 31, 2013, 03:43:44 PM »
The only filter I can find doesn't let the lid sit down all the way & my father in-law lives next to an old guy that has a massive stash of vintage filters so I was going to see if he had any.

Same filter as used on the Boss 302 and the 428 CJ cars (later years) I believe

The filter books always have the wrong number though the diameter is normally correct.  Will see if my Cougar has a part number on the filter (had the same problem there ) and will provide that number for you to try.

Reporting back and has been my experience in the past a visit to the local parts store produced an "official" part number and a filter that was approx too tall by 1". That one is labeled CA114 for Fram. Somethings just don't change :( Guess they are just using the Fairlane filter as a one size fits all though that air cleaner is taller.

What I found

Mr Gasket makes a filter that does fit the application (more expensive than the cheap Frams, Wix, ....) Its a little larger dia (by maybe 1/4") but with the lid on no movement (seals) in the filter

Ford older books list the correct filter size as 13.3" OD - 11.32" ID - 2.22" high

Closest Fram I could find was CA 340A with 12.66" OD - 11.19" - 2.5" high

I have experienced the same difficulties with my air cleaner lid and any filters I can locate.  Jeff, do you have the part number on the Mr. Gasket filter handy?  If not, I will just utilize the dimensions you provided for the next closest.  Thank you

13.30OD and 2.22 high, would be an FA-41, or our part number 9601-9 or a - FA-612R will work also. Did some digging at NPD or other if it helps
