Early 65 FB Carpet
« on: April 12, 2013, 12:22:49 PM »
Was curious if anyone have a pic of how the carpet fits where the fastback panel is on an early SJ 65 Fastback that would have carpet that doesn't go under the sill platebut has vinyl between the floor and sill plate...I've only seen coupes

Chris how "early" are you looking for? There are a number of versions I've seen

Hope this helps. A few features noted from this time period

- no toe pad

- Quarter panel cover carpet only trimmed on top edge or not trimmed (serged) at all (reproduction stuff from the 70-'s started the trim all around the edge thing)

- Outer edges trimmed (serged) on front and rear sections

- possibly each rear corner near inner rocker may have carpet screw to retain the loose corner of the carper. Check for original hole for screw seen in picture #2 below

Hope this helps

Poor original picture - building a 65 Shelby possibly one of the three October builds)

Slightly later example

Here is the original rear from a March '65 SJ FB.  I have a carpet out of a Sept. '64 SJ FB too.  It is cut the same way.  It's just cut and surged on the edges (like the early coupe carpet) and "notched out" and surged there for the panel (like all FB carpets.)

Thanks guys, that does help me out....now the problem/question is, who has the best carpet close to original?  I was down in Tucson last month and a guy had the same color combination car that I have and his car was built a month after mine in Nov 64 but his is a coupe.  I've attached some of the pics of the carpet and the samples I brought with me.  As you can see, they really do not match what he has.  His grandparents bought the car new...Trying to avoid taking out the folddown carpet as that is a pain but I can't even get a sample to match the carpet that is in there now so i only change the bottom section. Even the sample of vinyl from ACC does not match his or mine....Anyone have any ideas?
