1967-68 Coupe Rear Window Trim Poll
« on: April 13, 2013, 08:05:45 PM »
67-68 Coupe Rear Window Trim. Notice the Different Lower Mounting Hole Locations on the vertical side trim. The trim with the higher hole also has a Support washer on the inside. This is a poll to figure out when this change was made. Please let me know which trim configuration you have as well as year-plant-assembly date. Jeff, hopefully you will have some info in that photo library of yours.  I'll start with my 67 San Jose Coupe, door tag date 20K, which has the higher mounting hole.

Our car, San Jose built on April o3, 1968 has a rear window trim like the top one in your example.  The holes are close to the pointed tip of the trim.

I believe it is a plant difference rather than a production change.

The difference between my San Jose 67 and John's San Jose 68 suggest it is not a plant difference. I am more inclined to figure it is a date change but unsure if it was an exact model year changeover or a running change. Hopefully we will get more response to help get us closer to the answer.

As posted on the other site

Dec 20 '67 San Jose build , holes further up the trim. April 29 '68 San Jose and May 17 '68 Dearborn nearer the tip.

Dec car is early style, other two late, would hazard a guess it was part of that changeover for some reason...

Interesting our 7-16-68 SJ has the holes higher. Makes me wonder if it was changed at some point?

That makes me wonder also Marty. Unless they reverted back to the earlier screw location which seems doubtful. I also posted this request on VMF and from the responses I have received so far, it looks like it could be narrowed down to a change between Jan 3, 68 and Apr 3, 68. There is a good possibility that each plant made the change at a different date as well. Hoping for more responses to keep whittling away towards an answer.

My Metuchen built Oct 26, 1966 coupe has the higher hole configuration.  But it also has the vinyl top.  Not sure if this would affect anything.

Dec '67 car has factory vinyl top.  Arpil 29 has vinyl top.  Different parts on the two.  The May 17 has no vinyl top, but same part as April vinyl top car.  So it would appear on the small sample to not be related to the vinyl top.
