1970 parking brake cable asembly
« on: April 09, 2013, 05:38:12 PM »
May 1970 Dearborn B2

On the 2 rear parking brake cable assemblies where the cables come out from the rear wheel  backing plates, should there be a small rubber seal  (bell shaped) on the cable housing? If so, any idea where I can purchase just those seals?

The front cable  from the foot lever should have one, correct?

Thanks,
Tony

Yes & don't know how you would replace it without taking cable apart.

My thought is that they should slip over the cable end(that small ball). and slide down the cable. Keep in mind that I am not referring to the one that is at the backing plate, but rather the end  of the cable where it attaches to the frame.

Thanks,

Tony

I never tried that but after 40 years that thin rubber boot dryrots & cracks & I am afraid you would rip the hole to big removing or replacing boot.  I have several cables at shop I replated but boot is bad & never looked for a source of someone selling boot separately but would be worthwhile looking into as that & the rubber sheathing tub ing is all that goes bad on cables unless they are pitted from rust.
