Topic: Duplicating The Top Concave Edge On a 69-70 Fastback Quarter Panel

Whats the best way to duplicate the top edge of 69-70 fastback dynacorn full quarter panel from flat to concave like an original panel , dolly& hammer or make some sort of jig and press it in ,thanks.

     If your looking at the 3-4" wide section below the 1/4 window and sail panel ?   Mine in flat.  Brian

The area i am refering to is on each side of the rear window not the quarter window and is almost the full legnth of the panel to the rear end cap.

 Good eye, many others have missed this detail.  I used a short section of an oak dowel and a hammer.

Dan ,nice job. did you do it before the quarters were welded on or after, and what size oak dowl did you use thanks.

I did it after welding the quarter in place.  I remember correctly I used a 3/4 dowel.

I am in the same boat with Dynacorn qtrs. I am curious how you used the dowel. Did you have the dowel resting on the area to be indented and hit it with the hammer? Did you have a dolly on the underside when you hit the dowel with the hammer? Did it take much force to form the indent?

I was very pleased with the fit on the quarters, i think the detail along the back glass was the only problem.

Both sides of the small flat area are very rigid, I didn't feel I needed to support the back side with a dolly and once the panel is welded in it is difficult to get to the area behind.  The dolly would also have to be shaped to accept the cove, plus the cove is wider the closer you get to the quarter extension.

I sanded the ends of the dowel round also to prevent any sharp edges from denting the quarter in a line or crease perpendicular to the cove.

It was actually very easy to form the cove which is very slight, you don't have to hit very hard.
