302-2V Exhaust manifold question
« on: March 26, 2013, 09:52:10 PM »
I run the original exhaust manifolds on my convertible so I have no first hand knowledge about this, but someone whose opinion I respect told me there was a difference between convertible manifolds and coupes/sportsroofs. Is there any truth to this? It seems unlikely to me but 'verts do have different structural dimensions which makes me wonder...

Hmmm haven't heard that one before. Engine compartment is the same for all body types only the engine mounts different slightly. Never had a 69 conv only a 70 but never removed or looked at the casting numbers to compare.

If this were true I would expect that 67-70 small block exhaust manifolds would have been different also. Will see if my MPC goes up to 69 in that section just to check.

X2 on the V-8 engine frame stands and mounts for 1969 and probably 1970 convertibles. Same mounts/stands as a 1967 Mustang/Cougar with 289.

I'm familiar with the different engine mounts, I'm curious about the manifolds. I'll try to get the casting number off mine as I know they are original. I suspect they're no different from any other 302.

In 1970 Ford came out with an updated casting for the 302 exhaust manifolds, D0OE... casting numbers.
Were they still using the C6OE... casting number manifolds in 1969? I'm not sure on a Mustang after 1968.

We have found that 1968 302 exhaust manifolds with thermactor smog systems, had some additional machining where the manifold meets the cylinder head surface in the area where the tubes went into the cylinder heads for clearance. This is the only differenct that I am aware of, but I'm getting off topic.

Was just using the motor mount discussion to explore the reasoning for a need for different manifolds since that is the only variable ;)

Would not expect that the manifolds are different
