rear non fold down seat
« on: December 21, 2020, 07:54:03 AM »
I have a 70 Mustang with standard interior and non fold down rear seat. As i am putting it back together, I see there is a large gap between the seat back and the side panel. It is on both sides and about the same on both. I am wondering if there is a different seat back for non fold down cars. Any input?

It's possible, but unlikely, that you have a convertible rear seat, which is much narrower than coupes/fastbacks.  If your gap is more like 4-6" on each side, then that nails it.  If more like one inch or less, then something else is going on.

From the MPC, which you can get for yourself also :)

for basic part numbers 61390 and 60032 there was no distinction between fixed and fold-down parts.  That doesn't necessarily mean they are the same but it is a point of reference.

Do you have the Osborn assembly manual, and did you look there?

It appears that your describing the top section of the rear seat section so can't be a convertible. Has the car been rebuilt and or panels replaced and repaired?  Sometimes when this happens the supports don't get back in the original locations creating pretty large gaps

Guessing that when you post " large gap between the seat back and the side panel" your referring to the back panel to side trim panel gap and not the rear seat back since it does not go all the way out to the edges of the metal frame. There is some adjustments possible with the upper brackets and lowers can be shimmed if need be but its a long process of trial and fit

Is the gap larger than this one? Non-sport decks seem to have larger gaps in general.

OK, so I found out that my car is missing the caps on the rear seat top
