Upper Control Arm Shaft bushing seals
« on: February 10, 2013, 08:51:35 PM »
May 15, Dearborn 70 Boss 302.

On the upper control arm shaft, most of the current kits (including the top of the line one from Rare Parts), contains both an O-ring seal that fits inside of the large end nuts, and  another cup/boot  seal that slips over the shaft and is on the inside of the UCA.  The Ford manual only mentions the O-ring, so  I just want to confirm that the Ford assembly line units only had the O-ring, correct?

Thanks

The upper "A" arm came to the assembly line as a sub-assembly, arm, ball joint and shaft, where it languished for 40 to 45 years wearing out that "O" ring.
I found "O" rings at  Granger's http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/start.shtml under their stock number 1KLP3
http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg/search.shtml?searchQuery=1KLP3&op=search&Ntt=1KLP3&N=0&GlobalSearch=true&sst=subset
The bad news is that you have to buy a bag of 50 for $10.37, that's $0.2074 each, or $0.8296 a car (4 each). I've used up 5 cars worth so far and I got two more sets of upper "A" arms to rebuild so it's not a bad purchase.

Thanks again. I am replacing the entire shaft assembly, which comes with the new O-rings (and those extra boots I was questioning)  so I am all set with the O-rings.
