1966 Rear Emergency Brake Line
« on: January 31, 2013, 02:03:55 AM »
I learned something new today!  I did not realize that there were different rear emergency brake cables between1965 and 1966 mustangs.  My buddy has a 1966 Hertz fastback (SJ built) that was built in December of 1965.  The previous owner modified/changed the emergency brake cables years ago and he wants to return it back to its original state.  My question is when was the switch from 1965 to 66 brake cables?  Would a December 65 1966 mustang come with the 65 setup?

Thanks!

No.  My 9/65 scheduled build '66 SJ car has the '66 style e-brake setup.

This was always interesting for me as my 65 Dearborn coupe with a July 9 scheduled build date had a 66 set up on it. When I restored it (10 years ago) I put the 65 set up on it to avoid points being deducted at shows. I still have the original cable and have considered having it re-plated and installed. (It was the same with my blue alternator pulley which I have now installed)

Thanks for the info...I just checked my car (san jose may 15 build) and I have the 65 setup...Does anyone know when the switch could have taken place in San Jose?

Thanks!

My GT is a SJ Sept. 1965 car.  I can tell you that I have the round cable equalizer.  But I am not sure what the other differences are.

I believe the 66 brake cable setup uses the round cable equalizer.

The round equalizer is indeed for the 1966.  I just don't know what upstream and downstream of the equalizer is different!

Sorry, it is a Dearborn build. Round equalizer and no floor pan indents.
