Topic: Tailight wiring repair

My original wiring is very nice except the sockets were cut off and wire nutted back on.  Is there an acceptable way to fix this?  I have another harness that has good wiring but the cloth covering is really bad.  I would rather cut the good sockets off and solder it back on to mine closer to the cloth cover.  Ideally i wanted to move the cloth back and hid the repair under it but it doesn't seem to move and looks very fragile.
