Topic: 65 Reverse Lights

My 65 C Code Fastback (SJ Nov built) has a Ford replacement rear valance installed. It would be from 1981-82 just prior to me buying the car (still has the Ford part label attached). The valance has reverse lights but have never worked. After looking at the rear electrical harness (which appears original), there are no plugs for the reverse lights on the wire harness.

My question is, did all 65's have reverse lights or where these transitioned in as other items were ( door handles, heater control, etc) on early 65's?

I know my SJ 65 fastback from high school did not have backup lights and that was built in June of 65.  The guy who bought it from us in 2001 added them....I prefer not to have them.  Cleaner look I believe

Back-up lights were in fact a seperate option for model year 1965.  With that being said if you purchased a back-up lamp kit from Ford (C5ZZ-15599-A) it came with the wiring (black with red tracer) for the actual lamp feed to the switch.  The transmission application determined what type of back-up switch that was needed (3 or 4 speed manual/ auto).  Bill

I guess I am going to be on the hunt for a NOS rear valance since mine has the b/u lights already mounted.
