I have also done two 69 Cougars in the past couple years that were 'R' San Jose Built Cars. And there were at least some 70 Cougar Eliminators built in San Jose also, if I recall my conversation with (Eliminator Registrar)Dave Wyras correctly. I spoke to him trying to confirm Factory Eliminator Status on a 70 Cougar and I asked him if all 70 Eliminators were built in Dearborn and he said some were built in San Jose. I'm pretty sure that is what he said but I can't find my emails between us that I thought I saved. It seems like the Majority of my previous 69-70 Cougar VINs show Dearborn.

I am not a Cougar historian but I thought Cougars were built in Dearborn in 1969 and not San Jose? Were the 8600 built very early?

Yep San Jose built them also (besides Dearborn) in 68 and 69

That explains why my Nov. 68 SJ built Mach 1 got the ribbed lid.

I respect your opinion Scott. It corresponds with my VINs and the one Jeff posted of an earlier car. I couldn't find my notes from Dave and mines conversation so I was up in the air on that one.

I always like to say "I learn something New every day" I guess I'll have to also start saying " I forget something Old every day" LOL.

I have a 1970 Dearborn Mach 1 with with 428 4 spd.  It has the cougar/shelby style console lid.
