Topic: 66 NJ Trunk Drop Off color (underside)

I did a search with no luck so I am posting my question....

I have a '66 convertible from Metuchen with a build date of around Oct 1965.  The car was pretty badly rusted.  As the restoration proceeds, it was clear to me that the underside of the car in the floor/tunnel area was painted the red oxide primer as some paint was still visible.  In the rear wheel wells, black sound deadener was still in tact.

My quarters and truck drop offs were all patched prior to me receiving the car.  I am trying to determine what color would the trunk drop offs have been as well as the trunk area underneath the car where the gas tank would go.  I am trying to finish the underbody painting so all of these questions are dealing with the area as it would appear under the car.

The trunk drop area from underneath would be the same color as the main section of the floor painted at the same time. Like other plants it appears that the firewall rearward on the bottom was shot at one station (stopping just short of the rear cross member) while the firewall section was shot at another by hand.

Rear wheelwell (sound deadner) will get a very nice coating of body color as yopur next to the last step (prior to pinch weld black out). Just look at the openign and imagine the painter shooting the rear wheelwell lip (this will leave a thin section behind the fender lip with no body color) and them passing the paint gun over the open wheelwell as they pass the gun back and forth over the quarter panel. The results is a nice coat over the sound deadener and the exposed frame section in that area
