67 deluxe seats question
« on: September 09, 2012, 07:54:44 PM »
Just bought a pair of 67 deluxe seats at a swap meet,
they have the hard shell back with the metal trim but
there is no lower side trim that goes on the lower
portion seat. The upholstery is the original and I see
no evidence that the side trim was ever on, no holes
in the lower frame, no brackets. I had another set some
time back that had the side trim so I remember how it was.
Any ideas? Did some come through without the side trim
and just had the hard shell backs on?

I take it that you looked here first http://www.concoursmustang.com/forum/index.php?topic=2974.msg15800#msg15800

The search feature is your friend ;)

It at least shows the rear bracket for the base. Will see if I can find a picture (or someone else will chime in) of the forward support.

Yes all the deluxe seats did have the outside and rear panels

Thanks Jeff, I'll try the search function next time.
I took the seat back off and found a tag with the part number
and a date of 10/66 so they are earlier seats, maybe some came
through without the lower portion?
I'm not good at posting pics but if you leave me a PM with your
e-mail address I can send them to you if you would like to see them.

Would not thing they just left them off on some cars or that yours was skipped. New owner would surely notice it missing - like missing one of the windshield moldings :)

The only other thing might be is if someone switched
the bottom of the seats out with standard bottoms but
they are same color and original upholstery...guess thats possible.

You don't have a envelope or e-mail listed in your profile.

You seem to be describing the early later version on the lower side trim of the 67 deluxe interior front bucket seats. The early style used the front and rear bracket for mounting of the side trim only. This poor design evolved into a later improvement which included a side mounting bracket and of course the mounting hole in the middle which it attached through.

I looked at them closer and I do see two holes in the front and two on the back,
the missing ones on the side were throwing me off! You are right, they have a 10/66 date
on the tag so they are early seats without the center side support for the trim.
Thanks for the clarification!
