Decipher date code
« on: September 04, 2012, 07:11:57 PM »
The power disc brake distribution block for the 68 and 69 mustangs have information stamped on the fender wall side of the block.  The info on mine, see photo, is at the upper portion;  C8AZ  2B257  J2 and below that is the Wagner logo and 12088.
On the West Coast Cougars web site is a display for their Dist. block repair kit and that block is stamped;  C8ZA-2B257-L1 and Wagner 19128.
Using the Marti Report build date info for my car, 9/19/68, and other sheet metal date stamps I am guessing the  ' J2 ', September 2, is the date stamp on my part.  On the West Coast Cougars part the L1, represents November 1.
Any input you might have please share.  Thanks,  Brian

The "J2" and "L1" are the suffix portions of the engineering number, Brian. They're not date codes.

I haven't looked into Wagner brake valve date codes in detail, but here's a guess. The format could be "DDMMY" for day, month, and year. If so, 12088 -> August 12, 1968. 19128 -> December 19, 1968.

Thank you Scott.  The Day/Month /Year format works with the build date for my car.  Perhaps if it were stamped  8 H 12  I could have figured it out ?
