Fan & fan spacer for 1968 200 I6 engine
« on: March 14, 2022, 03:31:23 PM »
Hello all.
I?m restoring a 68 coupe w/ 200 engine and C4 trans, no PS, no AC.  I?m trying to determine the correct fan & spacer for this car.  I bought a 4 blade fan on eBay C5DE8600 that was advertised as the correct blade for a 65-68 I6 200 engine.  It supposedly came out of a 67 and came w/ a FoMoCo spacer that is 1 1/2? deep not including the center peg.
The fan that came w/ my car is not correct, I?m pretty sure.  It is a 6 blade, flex type and came w/ a round solid spacer 2 7/16 deep.  Appears to be aftermarket.
I looked in the hardware spreadsheet for the correct fan pulley spacer bolt length (which would lead me to the correct spacer length) and the bolts are either 2 3/8 or 2 3/4 long for a ?67 200 engine w/o AC.  Unfortunately there is no bolt listed for the 68 I6 200.  My guess is that the correct spacer should be 2 1/2 in based on the 67 bolt length.  Also, just curious, should the bolts extend past the water pump flange or should they be about flush once torqued?  Thanx in advance.  Dave

For the fan and spacer, have you looked through one of the MPC's to see at least what Ford listed as the service part for each of these? Though it has its flaws you could start with at least the last printed versions which you can access though this site

As far as the fan bolts and the engagement at the water pump - if you could see behind the pulley that often covers it I believe it is not uncommon for the ends to stick through the flange a little  but not much and of course not enough to touch or strike the nose section of the water pump

Guess you have already taken a look at the pictures of the unrestored 68 T codes on the site

For example picture labeled EC-4 in Early 68 T code San Jose Coupe - Unrestored Picture Thread

Or in 68 T code Dearborn - Unrestored Picture Thread

Possibly more if you have looked
