Just redid a bench seat and after taking another look at the old upholstery before tossing it I noticed the inserts are black comfort weave.  The two seat bottoms are in  good shape, one back has a about  1" gouge low on the backrest, but not cut through, and other backrest has a hole in the middle, so no good.  :P

As I just bought some Ivy Gold CW inserts and when talking to SMS they noted black was getting real hard to find, just wondering if these can these be cleaned up, redyed if needed, and reused?

I don't quite understand the sentiment of your post? I don't think Marty is "no one" . He responded .  I value Marty's opinion . If you need another post for conformation then-I as well as many others I know have reused the comfort weave inserts. If you wanted to donate or sell you should have made yourself clear. I don't understand where the frustration comes from ?

-Just out of my curiosity what kind of quality are the reproduction seat covers that use comfort weave material like?

The repro's I have seen  miss the mark by a mile. The typical repro comfortweave is a pressed solid vinyl where as the original has the characteristic of a breathable weave material even though it is a vinyl material as well. No doubt a much more expensive process. It wouldn't be so bad but the pattern that the repro people chose to copy does not look the same as the original . I guess they thought since it was small , close was good enough or maybe just a dumb mistake. Probably a little of both.

Think that matches the quality control criteria for most reproduction parts!

Yes, the repro stuff is nowhere near the "real deal", thus my question before tossing something someone may need and be able to re-used which can't be easily replaced.   They ain't making any more...

The "sentiment" was based on asking if anyone had "reused" it.  Marty (who I value the opinon of, on a few forums) noted he "saved" it... not reused. Different actions.  I have "saved" a lot of stuff that has sat gathering dust for 15+ years, not many takers and more museum stuff (or OCD issues!) than "valuable" for reuse in many cases,

I've got too much "mighta-maybe-someday" parts in the shed and if this has no hope of being reused I'll toss it.  I have no clue and hoped someone here could provide a definative "yes" or "no" to if it can be reused, not "hang onto it because its old"...

I'm culling a lot of crap from 20 years of "I might need this" stuff that has been sitting far to long,  if no takers in a few weeks, gone...  this one seemed a bit unique thus the question here...

So posting "-I as well as many others I know have reused the comfort weave inserts" now... would have been a nice reply to the orignal post asking if it can be reused....  :o

I think the reproduction materail should not even be advertised as confort weave. No I have not reused the original fabric I have saved but only because I have not had the opportunity to yet. I know it can be reused and in a car that may have only one or two bad panels used fabric would match far better than even NOS. I may never need it but it will be there to help someone else. I have some 68 parchment if anyone needs it. Marty
