Drivers Side Remote Mirror
« on: May 12, 2012, 01:23:00 PM »
Good Morning
I am trying to set a drivers side remote mirror on my '65. The template provided shows that the base is. It centered in the valley on the top side of the door, but rather inboard closer to the door glass. Is that correct? Or centered in the valley?
Thank you!

Three things to consider, can you open the vent window, does the mirror hit the main window, and is the mirror usable (can you adjust it and see out of it). Centering the mirror in the valley may cause an interference fit, but as you figured out, the base mounted a bit to the inside will move the top out to provide clearance. It doesn't take much, maybe an 1/8 inch. Doing this will cover the first two of the three considerations, the last is a general statement. Is this a new installation, as in a replacement for a standard mirror? If so, I'm curious about what you did about the existing holes?

Hi Jim,
Thank you for your suggestions. I did go back and check the clearance again for the vent, door glass and hopefully  visibility. Hopefully it's set now. The car is in the body shop for repairs and I had to use a replacement door as mine was twisted from a previous owners accident. All holes were welded and we started fresh.
Thanks!

Make sure you remove your Ford door data tag off your old door and affix it to your new door!

Oops! Heh-heh. Good catch Matt. I had to go outside and retrieve it!
