Topic: 67 tail light housing

Refinishing questions - referring to pictures below:

1. What is plating finish on housing?
2. Assuming the tape is factory installed, what type of tape is used? Appears to have a clear mylar finish
3. What was the purpose of the tape?

John,
The finish on the housing was most often clear zinc but do occasionally do see zinc dichromate on 68s. The black tape was gaffers tape and was used to seal and retain the socket more securely. Marty

I was wondering if the application of the gaffers tape was a regular thing or if was only applied as required?
Was it plant specific or was it a thing done on most cars?

Brad I can not say every car had the gaffers tape but I have restored 10 67-68's and parted 20+ others most were San Jose or Dearborn cars and all had the tape. Hope this helps. Marty
