65/66 Door Glass Internals
« on: March 19, 2012, 09:04:55 AM »
Does anyone have experience with the reproduction front and rear "c-channel" door glass runs?  The front one that attaches to the vent frame, and the rear one that bolts inside the door to the rear jamb area.

Mine are not very rusty but need zinc plated...$100+...and then need fabric fitted and adhered.

If the repops are nice, look very close to OEM, and fit and work just like OEM, it would save me some time and a little money.

Please give me any advice.

Bryan:  I used the repop front door glass runs and they fit and function perfectly. The weatherstripping inside the channels were shot on mine
so that is why I opted for the repops.  As for the rears, I just stripped off the old fabric, cleaned off the corrosion with my blast cabinet, painted
them, and applied new fabric. They work great, my windows roll up and down real nice.

Brian,
I needed one front piece but had to buy the repro pair (from NPD) to get it but I now had the opportunity to compare an old one and new one. The fit was the same, the quality was good and they worked. I installed both new ones. The rears were both good enough to reuse.

Just got my NOS one.  The date of MFG was JUL 1969.  I thought it would have the clear flaps but it doesn't.  Anyone have any ideas?

Focus on the REAR door glass runs.  Mine on my 66 are obviously suppose to be clear zinc, so I stripped the woven material off and sent them out for plating.

My question:  Can some folks post their experience at re-covering them with the woven material kits that the Mustang Suppliers sell?
They come with some sort of "industrial adhesive."  My thought is that I should use the contact cement from Ebay that Charles and Jeff use to attach the door and trunk weatherstrip?

How does it fit?  Are there any tricks, or is it a simple process to get it on right?

Bummer!  Cheese!

The P.O. replaced the rust-free passenger door with a salvage door, rather than repair it after a minor fender bender.  Now I'm deluxe'ing the regulators and stuff, and here's what I found.  Not too bad but not pleasant either.  He got the door from an Emberglow/Parchment coupe (with glass) and never understood why the convertible top could never be adjusted to fit right.  I had to get a convertible glass and install it.  I wish he had just got a professional body-man to fix the dented original door.
