Shelby Hime? Overdrive
« on: March 29, 2012, 03:53:42 PM »
Is anyone familiar with a Hime overdrive gear? I don't know if this is the correct spelling. I was told that they installed these units in Shelby 4 speed cars. This reduced the high rpm's in 4th gear to something more manageable. I would rather find and install one of these than say a 5 speed. Don't know if I would ever install a 5 speed though. Thanks!

Thanks. Was this equipment sold through Ford or to anyone?

I have done a bit of research on the drive. Would it be possible to convert a model 300 to my 67 Shelby GT350? I believe it is a 9" differential?

Thru a very quick search on Yahoo.com (I assume Google would give the same results) I found this -

If the concept sonunds too good to be true, it's because they don't make the unit anymore.

The units were sold through Shelby in 66 as a option but they were VERY unpopular. Also sold through truck shops and part houses. They ended up in allot of 2 ton trucks ;)

Hard to find today, require that you make sheet metal alterations in your cars body.

They came in two versions - one that basically replaced your pinion gear and retainer in a Ford 9" (requires you to shorten your driveline) or bolted to the floor pan requiring that you connect two drive lines (one fore and one aft)  in line

Have one in my Fiberfab ET Mustang and have seen a few in 66 GT350's
