Steering Wheel Confusion
« on: February 25, 2012, 05:46:54 PM »
Hello All:
I have an early San Jose fastback with the faux wood steering wheel.  Inside the cap has a C5Z part number.  Here is my confusion:  The faux wood is a medium chocolate brown with shiny rivets. A friend of mine has an aftermarket, but pointed out that the rivets are supposed to be a matte finish?  Also, his faux wood is a light brown with black faux wood grains.  Are the rivets shiny or flat?
thank you!

The rivets were originally shiny.  The wood grain steering wheel plastic was originally the chocolate color you describe, but the coloring was deep dark/medium brown accents.  There was no black grain appearance on the originals.  I believe the repro steering wheel falls short in many details.

Thank you Charles!
I do like the looks of my original wheel much better than my friends aftermarket. It does have a crack in the plastic at the left eight o'clock position, is there a do it yourself kit out there to patch the crack?  If not, I will be happy with what I have now!
Thank you!
