66 Dearborn Timing cover and water pump
« on: March 02, 2012, 06:18:27 PM »
When I found my 66 Dearborn C code, the timing cover was natural aluminum and the water pump was cast iron not painted. This car had 86,000 original miles and had been in storage since the early 80's. My question is, does anyone know if the timing chain cover was supposed to be painted on 66 dearborn cars and if the cast iron water pump was painted also or was the state I found this car in correct?

(mod note - year and plant added to title)

Your car appears to have lost its paint (from the items described) over the years for some reason. In storage since th e80's is not really that long compared to many cars we see - nor is 80K+ miles so allot of things can take place.

The engines were painted as a unit with the timing cover and water pump attached

An original example - same plant and year

This is kinda what I figured. The only thing that is really showing a lot of color is the air cleaner and valve covers. most of the cast iron stuff just has very little blue left on it. Thanks for the photo! This helps a lot.
