long term battery storage
« on: May 19, 2012, 09:21:27 AM »
For my '08 GT I'll probably replace the factory Motorcraft with a replacement Motorcraft this summer.  For the original, I would like to put into long term storage.  How long?  Good question.  Let's assume 10-20 years for the sake of discussion.  At work I would evacuate something like this and charge it with nitrogen gas.  But that is not practical at home.  I would imagine that the steps would be to drain it, rinse with distilled water, then purge with air (nitrogen better).  Then place in a strong zip lock bag with desiccant packs.  I'm not expecting that in 20 years I'll be able to fill with acid and charge it, but at least I would have the factory battery that looks good and is not falling apart.  Any ideas out there?
