66 CONVERTIBLE TOP DRAINS
« on: September 13, 2014, 11:29:27 PM »
I searched this site and googled the topic and have been unable to find information on the top drainage system.

Does anyone have the layout of the drainage system?

After I wash the car substantial amounts of water drains from the rear quarter area for some time. I suspect a restriction. I would like to service the system once I know what to do.  Thanks.

No picture, but a description may help you.  There is a steel gutter that wraps around the rear and outsides of the top stowage area.  It is directly under the the edge where the top goes underneath the chrome "hockey-stick" moldings.  At the L & R quarter glasses, a lot of water flows down the glass and into the interior area in front of the two wheels.  This is where the gutter sends its collected water also.

There, the water only has ONE way to escape on each side.  It's an oval slot about 3/16" x 1/2".  It allows water to pass into the hollow galvanized rocker panels where it runs out the little, rear-facing scoop.

An object as small as a pencil eraser could almost totally plug either one of the openings.  Dirt and debris has a tendency to build up in the bottom of the area where the quarter-glasses live, and the rockers clog up easily too, especially if the car has ever been media blasted.

Hope that helps.  I spent hours getting all the crud out those two tiny holes.

Thanks! I appreicate your help very much.

Are there tubes from the metal shelf leading down to the rear quarter drain area? If there are tubes, is there a method to clean them or otherwise service the tubes?

No tubes.  That's why that area was prone to rust.
